File Valuation Complaints until 3/31
Board of Revision season is here again. If you believe the assessed value on your tax bill is inaccurate you have until March 31st to file a “Board of Revision Complaint” form. This gives our office another opportunity to evaluate your property and ensure it’s assessed correctly.
In Ashtabula County we have nearly 80,000 parcels. Only 118 Board of Revision complaints were filed last year. That’s less than 1% of property values contested. There were 108 cases regarding property valuation, and 10 concerning farmland reinstatements to CAUV.
70% of complaints filed had results favorable to the taxpayer. These complaints provided sufficient evidence to support their claim and were approved by the board.
Of the 118 total cases, 114 were resolved at the Board of Revision level without appeal to a higher court. That’s 97%!
