9/12 - Ashtabula County Declared "Secretarial Natural Disaster Area"
The Secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture has designated Ashtabula County, along with Lake and Geauga, as a primary natural disaster area. This is due to frost and freezing between May 7 and May 15, 2017. The frost and freezing caused sufficient production losses to warrant the designation.
Roger A Corlett, the Ashtabula County Auditor, says the designation will make eligible farmers able to apply for assistance through the Farm Service Agency. For details and further information, please call our local FSA office at 440-427-6330.
“Further, if a farmer didn’t get a crop to come up at all, but it was planted, let us know. Whether there is a poor crop or no crop at all due to frost or freezing, the property will still qualify for CAUV,” says Corlett.
