Auditor’s Office Temporary Relocation
Asbestos Abatement
Auditor’s Office undergoing Asbestos Removal
Dust and dirt will be flying soon in the Ashtabula County Auditor’s Office as crews will be abating asbestos that has plagued the department for decades. Abatement of the asbestos will begin on August 9th and is expected to keep the Auditor’s Office staff out of their physical location through the second week of September.
- The current physical office will be closed from the Afternoon of August 9th until likely the second week of September. Please continue to check back or call/email for more details.
- Conveyance and Property Transfers will be relocated to Room 205 across from the Recorder's Office.
- Fiscal Department will be relocated to the Law Library
- All other staff will move to the old Metroparks Office behind the Title Bureau.
“I wanted to rip the band aid and do the right thing by our staff in my last few months in office,” said County Auditor David Thomas. “This will be a huge project as the remediation is a large area and we will then be doing new carpets and work to the office on electrical and updates.”
According to the Auditor’s Office the asbestos was discovered earlier this year by maintenance crews and county officials began work to address the contamination.
“I really want to thank the County Commissioners and especially our Office Manager Sue Belden for their quick work and focus on working through the logistics of all of this,” explained Thomas.
Auditor staff will be relocating to other parts of the Courthouse and will still be open to serve taxpayers according to Thomas. Property Transfers will be moved across from the Recorder’s Office in Room 205, the fiscal department will be located in the Law Library, and remaining staff will be in the former Metroparks building behind the Title Bureau for the month.
Thomas encourages residents to visit the County Auditor’s website for the most up to date information and if possible, call or email, instead of visiting the courthouse.
“I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding, this will be a disruption, but we will keep folks informed and most importantly be staying open through this work,” said Thomas.
