Homestead Savings and Income Update for 2026
Homestead Exemption is increased for Seniors
Ashtabula County Auditor Scott Yamamoto announced updates to Ohio’s Homestead Exemption Program for tax year 2025 (collected in 2026). The Ohio Department of Taxation has raised both the income limit and the home-value exemption, expanding property tax relief for qualified homeowners.
“Each year, this program helps seniors and disabled veterans save on property taxes,” said Auditor Yamamoto.
Key Updates for 2026:
- Income Limit: Up to $41,000 in Ohio Adjusted Gross Income (OAGI).
- Standard Exemption: Taxes on $29,000 of home value are exempt.
- 100% Service-Connected Disabled Veterans: Qualifying veterans and certain surviving spouses receive a $58,000 exemption with no income limit.
How to Apply:
Applications are available online, by mail, or in person at the Auditor’s Office. Homeowners must apply in 2026 for savings on 2027 tax bills. Details and forms are available under Real Estate, Homestead & Owner-Occupancy on the county website.
Stay Updated:
Real Estate Assistant Jessica Wade reminds residents that qualifying limits change annually and encourages them to check eligibility each year.
The Homestead Exemption provides property-tax relief to Ohio homeowners who are 65 or older, permanently disabled, or 100% service-connected disabled veterans by reducing the taxable value of their home.
