CAFR 2017 Release
Roger A. Corlett, the Ashtabula County Auditor, has released the county’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, or CAFR. The report is prepared every year and given to the State Auditor’s office as part of their audit of county financial activity. Once again the State issued an “unmodified” opinion that the CAFR describes the county finances fairly, or a “clean” audit. In accounting, a clean audit is the best outcome available.
This report contains essential information in analyzing the county’s financial health and in addition gives investors a reliable look into the risk of purchasing bonds or issuing debt. “Along with the other detailed financial reporting that I publish online every month, the CAFR will give you a great look at everything that goes on with your taxes,” says Auditor Corlett. “As County Auditor I am the ‘CFO’ for the county finances. I find it very helpful to show the tax payers what happens to the well over $200 million of county money that comes through my office. Getting the clean audit shows the public we are doing it right.”
