Auditor and OSU Extension Help for Miscanthus Grass Farmers
Are you on CAUV for Miscanthus?
Please read below a letter sent to those on CAUV with Miscanthus grass.
Dear property owner on CAUV:
Our office is reaching out to you because you were signed up to grow Miscanthus for Aloterra. Some of you have it growing in your field, whereas other fields were never planted. Because the Aloterra program is no longer in place, we are contacting you to instruct you about steps required to keep your land qualified for the CAUV tax credit.
If your fields were not planted with miscanthus grass and are lying fallow, they need to be put into production in the spring of 2021 to stay on the program. If you do not farm yourself, we may be able to help you locate a farmer willing to work with you.
If your fields currently have miscanthus grass growing in them, you will need to eradicate it in order to put it back into production. If you have questions about how to remove it, you may call Andrew Holden at our County Extension Office at 440-576-9008. If you do not have equipment to help you remove the plants, we may be able to help you find farmers in your area to assist. If you contact our office to let us know your intent to eradicate the plants, we will give you one calendar year to do so and prepare the fields for production.
Your fields should be ready to place into production by the spring of 2022. If you have a legitimate reason why this cannot be completed on time, be sure to call our office. Our CAUV Specialist, Heather Hall can be reached at 440-576-3788 or by email at hrhall@ashtabulacounty.us.
If you wish to remain on the CAUV program, it is imperative that you contact us.
