Caliber Feed & Supply Store in Windsor
Auditor’s Office Adds South County Registrar to Dog License Sale List
Windsor Township- Ashtabula County Auditor David Thomas and Office Manager Sue Belden were delighted as they made the trip to Caliber Feed & Supply Store in Windsor Township to meet owner Marvin Fisher this past week. Fisher, and his newly constructed store, are the newest registrars to sell dog licenses on behalf of the Ashtabula County Auditor’s Office.
“We really appreciate Marvin providing this service to our residents who may not have easy access to the internet or can’t drive into Jefferson for their dog license,” shared Auditor Thomas.
Caliber Feed & Supply has been in operation since 2006 with Fisher and his business partner taking ownership in 2020 and building a new store and mill at their State Route 534 location just south of State Route 322.
“The community has been great to us, we provide feed and supplies to people all over Northeast Ohio so we are always excited to offer more items, even these licenses now,” said owner Marvin Fisher.
Registrars for dog licenses collect owner information and payments at their location and send the Auditor’s Office the application and money so that the dog’s owner can be sent a license via the mail. These mobile locations aid in customer service for residents not wanting to purchase a license online or at the Auditor’s Office.
The Auditor’s Office now has eight registrars throughout Ashtabula County, including Caliber Feed & Supply. “Marvin’s location is the only one in the southwest portion of the county, so I hope that residents will take advantage of this opportunity, especially as we have postponed the deadline for no penalties until March 31st,” explained Auditor Thomas.
All dogs three-months-old or older must register or renew their license each year between December 1 and January 31 in normal years, with an extension granted to March 31, 2021 due to the pandemic. Licenses alert the Dog Warden of official ownership and the owner’s contact information if a dog becomes lost or a concern arises.
Licenses are $12 for a one year tag with the fees helping towards shelter costs and Dog Warden funds. Purchasing a license at a registrar or online does include a small fee under $1 to cover the expense from the service.
The Auditor’s Office exceed their 2020 goal of 10,000 licenses sold, a record in Ashtabula County. “The more licenses we can sell, the more protected local dogs would be and better funded our shelters and Dog Warden is,” stated Auditor Thomas. Currently the office has sold 8,900 licenses for the 2021 season.
The 2021 Easter Dog License Coloring Contest is also due by March 31st in conjunction with the deadline for renewal licenses this year. Kids and adults alike can download the coloring sheet from the Auditor’s website or have one mailed to them and submit for judging by the end of the month. Winners will be selected by courthouse staff and receive coloring supplies for helping to promote the importance of dog licenses in Ashtabula County.
The Auditor’s Office is open for essential business and dog license purchases. Residents however are encouraged to purchase them online or via mail if possible. Questions can be directed to 440-576-3786.
